In Memoriam: Rusty Hammer, TWVSC co-founder

Rusty Hammer, co-founder and first chairman of the board of The Wellness Community Silicon Valley, died Monday, Jan. 28, after a lengthy battle with leukemia. He was 54.

Rusty had more than 30 years of experience in corporate and nonprofit organization management. In addition, he served as a city councilman in Campbell, beginning at age 18, and mayor at 21. In later years, he was president and CEO of the Sacramento and Los Angeles chambers of commerce.

He was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia in 2003 and spent 303 days in the hospital that first year. He and his wife, Pamela, benefited from the support they received from TWC in Pasadena. Later, they moved back to San Jose, and with friends Karen Storey and Steve Tedesco, they decided to establish The Wellness Community in Silicon Valley.

Rusty and his family have requested that memorial contributions be sent to The Wellness Community Silicon Valley. Contributions, which are tax deductible, can be made safely and securely here. Or, checks can be sent to:
